Fish-Owl Observatory at Washi no Yado

Outside protected areasby Washi no Yado / Fish-Owl Observatory

Heated riverside observation cabins (about 30 people) beside the Chitorai River in Rausu, 20 to 30 m from a stocked pool where a wild family of Blakiston's fish owls hunts almost every night. A pulsed low-light system (80 pulses per second) lets photographers freeze motion at 1/80 s without flash; viewing runs from about 30 minutes after sunset to midnight. Guests can also shoot from rooms of the attached minshuku.
