Habitat

Crowds

Also here
Marsh deer, yacaré (caiman), large waterbird diversity, night-drive fauna on RP40 (grey fox, vizcacha, sleeping capybara groups).
Light
Lat ~28.1°S. Max solar altitude ~38.5° at June solstice — the sun never climbs high. Computed: sun below 20° for ~1.8h after sunrise and before sunset (~3.6h/day); below 30° for ~6h/day; midday peaks 30–38°. Sunrise ~07:45, sunset ~18:02 in late June (Weather Spark, Mercedes). Overcast/mostly cloudy only ~40–43% of the time in June (Weather Spark) — cloud is NOT a reliable softener here; softness comes from low sun. Clear-sky midday at 35–38° is acceptable-not-soft; overcast days shootable all day. Short 10h17m day limits total hours.
Weather risk
Fog / mist (asset)
Tides and moon
Not applicable
Atmosphere
Cold mornings (lows ~9°C in July per Weather Spark) over warm lagoon water — breath vapour and water mist are plausible but FREQUENCY UNVERIFIED. Low sun gives long rim-light windows across the lagoon.
Permits
Parque Nacional Iberá: free entry, register or self-register; walking/cycling without guide allowed; night walks at Laguna Iberá portal weekends/holidays only with licensed guide (APN). Boat, kayak, canoe activities run in the neighbouring Parque Provincial as guided excursions; Provincial Park entry ticket valid 5 days. Drone rules NOT VERIFIED — check with park before flying. Winter is local high season: book ahead (traveller report).
Getting there
Carlos Pellegrini is 120 km from Mercedes (Corrientes) via RP40: ~50 km paved, ~70 km consolidated gravel; ~176 km gravel from Ituzaingó. Rain can make gravel difficult — check with Pellegrini tourist office. Alternative: fly to Posadas (~200 km, pricier transfers). 35+ lodgings in village, sitting directly on the lagoon — first-light positioning is easy. Minimum practical: 5 full days.

Who runs trips here: No photography-specific operator verified. Licensed guides and boat operators listed by portal at elibera.com.ar directory and Portal Laguna Iberá office. Ask for private boat hire timed to first/last light rather than shared excursions.

Also here
Jaguar (Cuiabá River, lower odds than Jul–Oct), giant anteater, hyacinth macaw, jabiru, caimans, marsh deer; giant otters harder in high water.
Light
Lat ~16.3°S. Max solar altitude ~64° mid-April, ~52° late June. Computed: sun below 20° ~1.4–1.5h each end (~3h/day). Cloud is the softener here: overcast/mostly cloudy falls from ~80% on Mar 1 to ~43% by May 31 (Weather Spark Poconé) — roughly 55–70% in April and ~45–50% in May (interpolated). April overcast days can be shootable all day; by June the dry season is 'mostly clear' and midday is out.
Weather risk
Rainy season and Fog / mist (asset)
Tides and moon
Not applicable
Atmosphere
Misty mornings in late April–May (single secondary source — frequency unverified). Standing floodwater gives reflections.
Permits
No park permit for Transpantaneira (public road through private ranches). Sport-fishing season brings crowds from March (traveller report). Drone rules not verified.
Getting there
Fly to Cuiabá; ~100 km paved to Poconé, then 147 km dirt Transpantaneira to Porto Jofre. At least 14 lodges along the road. Rains Nov–Apr can wash out road/bridges and force itinerary changes (Brazil Nature Tours) — late April roads may still be soft. Private 4x4 with guide recommended.

Who runs trips here: Photo-tour operators running the Transpantaneira/Porto Jofre route: Andean Photo Expeditions, Tony Sparkes Wildlife & Photo Safaris (max 6), Photo Wildlife Tours. Lodges: Pouso Alegre, Pousada Piuval, Aymará Lodge, Hotel Porto Jofre. None is capybara-specialist — capybaras are incidental on these trips.

White-tailed deer, Orinoco caiman / spectacled caiman, anaconda, jaguar (lodge agent says Jan–Mar best chance), 350+ bird species.
Light
Lat ~5.9°N. Max solar altitude ~72° in mid-February. Computed: sun below 20° for ~1.4h each end (~2.75h/day). Near-equatorial dawn/dusk are short and the sun climbs fast. Dry season is months without rain under harsh sun (Semana reporting) — overcast % NOT verified but clearly low. Midday unusable. Worst-case light profile in this subject's range.
Weather risk
Extreme heat, Heat haze (kills long lens) and Wildfire smoke
Tides and moon
Not applicable
Atmosphere
Backlit dust at crowded waterholes; savanna-burn smoke for red suns. Both come with haze.
Permits
Private civil-society nature reserve — access only via the reserve's lodge and local guides. Security: FCDO advises against all but essential travel to all of Arauca Department (bordering northern Casanare) and within 5 km of the Venezuelan border; Casanare itself is not on that list (checked 2026-09-15). Verify the Yopal–reserve route and current conditions before booking.
Getting there
Fly to Yopal; ~4h overland northeast to the reserve (El Tiempo). Packages are 3–4 nights with private transport. Days start ~05:30 sunrise. Heat is severe; bring shade and water.

Lat ~28.1°S. Max solar altitude ~74° in mid-February — high sun. Computed: sun below 20° for ~1.5h each end (~3h/day soft). Overcast/mostly cloudy ~30% around mid-March, the clearest time of year (Weather Spark) — cloud will not rescue midday. Midday unusable on clear days. Summer is the rainiest season, so some overcast days occur but frequency not quantified.

Tides and moon
Not applicable
Atmosphere
Storm skies from summer convection; humid dawn haze. Frequency not quantified.
Permits
Same as winter window: APN registration; guided boat excursions in Parque Provincial; night walks weekends only with licensed guide. Summer holidays bring more visitors (traveller guide).
Getting there
As winter window. Summer rain can make the 70 km gravel section of RP40 difficult. Heat and mosquitoes are the main field burden; book lodging with a pool/AC per traveller reports.

Weather risk

Atmosphere
Low winter sun all day; cold mornings over lakes (mist frequency unverified).
Permits
Private gated community — public access for photography UNVERIFIED; likely requires resident invitation or association permission. Active conflict: provincial Flora y Fauna capture-and-translocation operation (Jan 2026) with protests; fertility-control programme; a court precautionary measure (Sep 2025) conditions new development on a cumulative environmental assessment (public hearing Aug 2026). Photographing near capture operations may be sensitive.
Getting there

Atmosphere
Backlit dust and smoke-red suns are possible, but come with haze that degrades long-lens work.
Permits
